Boggs records 22 in first home game of 2020

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-11, 0-6 SAC) fell to visiting Tusculum (10-3, 5-2 SAC) by a score of 94-59 Wednesday evening.
Tusculum, after allowing the first basket of the contest reeled off 10 of the next 12 points to go up 10-4 with 2:38 played in the first frame. Mia Long was responsible for seven points in the run. Long would end the quarter with 11 points as Tusculum hit over 56 percent of their shots after the first 10 minutes of play. Both Tatum Boggs and De'Ja Marshall netted four points apiece for the Lions.
The Pioneers continued their dominant shooting performance in the second quarter, hitting 10 shots in the frame including eight three-pointers. Both Brianna Dixon and Kirsten Click hit two in the stanza. Boggs carried the Mars Hill offense, hitting three three-pointers for nine of the team's 11 points.
In the highest scoring quarter of the tilt, the teams combined for 49 points with the Pioneers narrowly edging out Mars Hill, 25-24. Tusculum built their lead to as many as 36 in the frame before the Lions began to claw into the deficit. Marshall led the team with nine points while Aliyah Miller led Tusculum with 11 points.
Conversely, in the fourth quarter, the lowest scoring quarter saw Tusculum close out the contest by 35 points for their 10th win of the season.
Miller led all players with 25 points followed by Long's 17 on the night. Jasmine Williams led the Pioneers with 10 rebounds. Boggs led the Lions with 22 points followed by Marshall's 13 points.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 11 when they host Anderson at 2 p.m.
