Marshall sets career-high versus C-N

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-19, 0-15 SAC) was downed by visiting Carson-Newman (15-6, 11-4) by a score of 96-73 Wednesday evening.
The Eagles opened the contest on an early 6-0 run and would build their lead to 11-3 with 4:20 remaining in the frame. They closed out the first on a 7-2 run to carry a 27-13 advantage into the second quarter.
Carson-Newman dominated play in the second, outscoring the Lions 26-6, leading 53-19 at the end of 20 minutes. The balanced offensive attack was led by Abby Wilson's six points from the bench, followed by Tori Griffin's five.
Mars Hill came out battling in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 54-43, but the large Eagles' lead held firm. Of the Lions' 28 third quarter points, De'Ja Marshall was responsible for 18 of them, going 6-of-11 from the floor.
Marshall recorded double-digits once again in the fourth quarter, sinking 13 of the Lions' 26 points. Tatum Boggs added six from the bench while Hannah Chandler chipped in offensively with five.
The Lions shot over 51 percent in the second half of play.
Carson-Newman had five players figure in double-digits, led by Kayla Marosites' 15 points. Madison Bunch added 14 while Griffin ended the night with 13.
Marshall led all players with 31 points, establishing a new career-high, while pulling down 10 rebounds for the double-double. Both Chandler and Alexis Pardue ended the contest with nine points apiece.
The Lions take to the road on Saturday, February 8 when they face Catawba. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
