Lions felled by SAC leading Pioneers

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-12, 2-12 SAC) was defeated Wednesday night by a score of 111-59 versus Tusculum (13-2, 13-2 SAC).
The Pioneers started the game off hot and never looked back, outscoring the Lions 22-9 in the first quarter. Mya Belton led all players with eight points in the frame followed by Aliya Miller's six from the bench. Maddie Sutton pulled down seven rebounds and added four points. De'Ja Marshall accounted for seven of the Lions' nine points.
Belton continued her strong play in the second quarter, going 5-of-5 from the floor for 13 points followed by Sutton's six. Hannah Chandler led the Lions with six points in the stanza with Alexis Pardue adding four.
Gabby Gianikos paced the Lions offense in the third, hitting all three field goal attempts for nine points. Marshall added six. Miller led all players with 11 points in the quarter, hitting all three three-point attempts.
A balanced attack by the Pioneers saw them shoot over 78 percent from the floor to close out the contest with their 13th win on the season.
Belton and Miller each netted 25 points for Tusculum while Sutton amassed 13 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double. Marshall led the Lions with 17 points followed by Chandler and Drew McMillan's 11 apiece.
The Lions take to the road on Saturday, February 13 when they take on Coker. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
