L-R narrowly escapes Lions

HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (12-14, 6-8 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (18-7, 13-4 SAC) by a score of 59-57 Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied at 57 with five seconds to play, the Bears' Emily Harman completed the come-from-behind win. The Lions opened the fourth trailing by as many as seven, but midway through the frame, back-to-back threes from Elyseia Brown gave the Lions the 53-50 lead with under five minutes to play.
The Lions trailed 13-11 after the first quarter. Tilda Lindstrom led all players with seven points. Jo Snow and Maddie Gillie led the Lions with five points apiece. In the second, Lenoir-Rhyne hit over 53 percent of their shots, scoring 19 points with Blaikley Crooks leading the team with six points.
Jadiyah Peoples led Mars Hill with 10 points in the frame.
Coming out of the half, Mars Hill outscored Lenoir-Rhyne 14-12 as Gillie led the squad with seven points. Despite outscoring Lenoir-Rhyne 16-15 in the fourth, the Lions outshot the Bears, hitting 50 percent of their shots. Brown led the team with six points while Harman led all players with nine points.
Mikeba Jones led all players with 19 points followed by 14 from Harman. Gillie led the Lions with 16 points while Peoples ended the day with 10. Tateyoina Harris led all players with 12 rebounds.
The Lions return to the court on Wednesday, February 21 when they face Emory & Henry. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
