Mars Hill defeated by Anderson in penultimate game
The Mars Hill women's basketball team (13-16, 7-10 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (20-7, 12-7 SAC) by a score of 89-74 on the road Wednesday night.
ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (13-16, 7-10 SAC) was defeated by Anderson (20-7, 12-7 SAC) by a score of 89-74 on the road Wednesday night.
Despite both teams going 8-of-17 from the floor, the Trojans led by four, 23-19, after the first quarter. Zamiya Passmore and Peytyn Oliver led all players with six points apiece. Elyseia Brown and Naja Ngongba each scored five to lead the Lions.
Anderson was led by Brittney Stafford's 10 points in the second half, extending their lead to 10 at the half. Mars Hill shot 54 percent from the floor, led by Ngongba's seven points. Jadiyah Peoples added four points from the bench.
In the third, the Lions outscored Anderson 19-18 as Tateyoina Harris led all players with seven points. Maddie Gillie added four for the Lions. Passmore led the Trojans with five points.
Anderson closed out the game by putting up a game-high 27 points in the fourth as Passmore netted 11 points. Stafford added nine points. The Lions shot a game-high 70 percent in the quarter as Harris led the team with five points followed by four apiece from Gillie and Peoples.
Passmore led all players with 24 points while Stafford added 21 on the night. Harris led the Lions with 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the double-double. Ngongba ended the night with 17 points, going 7-of-8 from the floor.
The Lions close out the regular season on Saturday, March 2 when they face Carson-Newman. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
