Lions Finish Sixth at Anderson University Fall Invitational
ANDERSON, S.C.-- Mars Hill's women's golf team placed sixth in the Anderson University Fall Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at Cobb's Glen Country Club.
ANDERSON, S.C.-- Mars Hill's women's golf team placed sixth in the Anderson University Fall Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at Cobb's Glen Country Club.
The Lions shot a 323 in the second round- a 15-stroke improvement from first-round play- to finish with a score of 661. Freshmen Katherine Lail and Jordie Sowell each carded a team-low 80 in the second-round of competition. Every Lion showed a minimum two-stroke improvement from round one to round two. Erskine College took home first-place with a score of 633. Rima Antous led the Flying Fleet as the individual medalist, carding a score of 150.
Jacqueline McCormick turned in Mars Hill's best score overall in the tournament with a 164. Lail and Victoria Barrett finished one stroke behind at 165.
Sowell showed the most improvement from round one to round two, as her 80 today was six strokes better than her first round score. She finished fourth among Lion golfers.
Sarah Johnson rounded out the Lions' top five, improving her round two score by five strokes.
Mars Hill's 15-stroke improvement caused the team to leapfrog Pfeiffer for the sixth-place spot. The top six teams in the tournament finished just 28 strokes apart, with the Lions' finishing just three strokes behind fifth-place Anderson.
Next up for MHU golfers will be the Emmanuel College Invitational in Hartwell, Ga. Qualifying rounds begin Sunday, Sep. 15 with the tournament concluding Tuesday, Sep. 17.
