Fabrizio nets five in win over Converse
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (2-1) defeated Converse (1-2) in non-conference play on the road Tuesday afternoon by a score of 8-7.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (2-1) defeated Converse (1-2) in non-conference play on the road Tuesday afternoon by a score of 8-7.
The Lions entered the second half trailing 5-4 and found themselves down by two with 1:43 elapsed in the second half. Maria Fabrizio scored three straight goals for the Lions to take a 7-6 lead with just over nine minutes remaining. All three tallies were assisted by Victoria Eckard. The Valkyries knotted the game at seven with under six minutes to play off of Sharlize Burgos' fourth goal of the contest.
Molly Tobias earned a free position attempt with 2:26 left in regulation and converted for her hat-trick marker and game-winning goal.
Burgos opened the scoring with 2:52 played in the first half off of a free position. Four minutes later, Tobias answered with her first of the game, also assisted on by Eckard. Converse once again took the lead just over two minutes later with Burgos' second of the game.
Mars Hill took their first lead of the contest following two Fabrizio free position goals, but Burgos once again struck to tie the game at three, collecting her hat-trick.
Two Daija Krygier goals in the final 7:54 allowed the Valkyries to enter the half up by one.
Gini Joy picked up her second win of the season, making six saves on the day. Myka Jones stopped nine in the losing effort.
The Lions return home to take on Wilmington on Monday, March 4th inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Action is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
