Lions selected seventh in SAC preseason poll
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team was selected seventh in the South Atlantic Conference's preseason poll.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Queens University of Charlotte Royals have been selected as the 2020 South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse preseason favorite, the league office announced today. The Royals received eight first place votes from the league's head coaches and a total of 89 points.
Lenoir-Rhyne University had one first place vote with 78 points claiming the No.2 spot, while Wingate University also had one first place vote and came in just below at No. 3 with 75 points. The University of Virginia's College at Wise came in fourth with 64 points and Lincoln Memorial University was picked to finish in the No. 5 spot with 61 points. Catawba College placed No. 6 with 51 points and Mars Hill University was voted No. 7 with 37 points. Rounding out the preseason poll were Coker University at No. 8 with 35 points, Mars Hill University at No, 9 with 31 points and Newberry College in the No. 10 spot with 19 points.
The South Atlantic Conference also announced its preseason all-conference honors. On the first team at the attack position were Rachel Perrett, Ally Blood and Kara Blanchard from Queens and Kendall Wells from Wingate.
The first team midfielders were Queens Sydney Bracken and Allison Conn, Lenoir-Rhyne's Gia Colombo and UVa-Wise's Caroline Earnshaw.
Cassie Lafler from Lenoir-Rhyne, Sydney Hussey of Queens, Zoe Zervos from Lincoln Memorial and Sierra Street of Wingate were all named as defenders on the first team.
Chase Brokaw of Queens finished up the list of preseason first team honorees, as she was named the first team goalie.
The 2020 South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse season is set to begin on Saturday, Feb. 1. The 2020 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship is set for April 21, 24 and 26 with quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and finals at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
