Mars Hill closes out season on road versus L-R
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-8, 2-7 SAC) was defeated 19-11 by Lenoir-Rhyne (5-6, 4-4 SAC) Saturday afternoon to close out the 2021 season.
HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-8, 2-7 SAC) was defeated 19-11 by Lenoir-Rhyne (5-6, 4-4 SAC) Saturday afternoon to close out the 2021 season.
Alexa Tazzetta scored the first goal of the contest 3:11 into the first half, however, the Bears responded with four straight goals. Sydney Joyce netted the second goal of the half for the Lions, but once again, Lenoir-Rhyne scored four in a row with Suzy Smith netting three.
Joyce scored twice in a row, both off of free position attempts, while Carley Camp and Alyssa Sack answered with goals of their own to end the half up 10-4. Cathleen Gaffney recorded six assists in the half.
Mars Hill opened the second half on a 5-1 run to pull within two, 11-9, with less than 20 minutes to play. Tazzetta and Kiersten Foust each scored twice in the run.
The Bears closed out the contest on an 8-2 run as Smith and Gaffney each scored three goals apiece.
Gaffney led all players with 11 points (3g, 8a) while Smith led all players with seven goals. Tazzetta led the Lions with six points (5g, 1a) while Joyce added five points (4g, 1a).
