Lions fall to Wingate in SAC Tournament play

WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-9) was defeated by Wingate (10-2) by a score of 21-3 Tuesday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference Tournament play.
The Bulldogs opened the contest on a 12-0 run with Annie Plotts recording five points in the half (4g, 1a). Paige Kamer recorded three assists. Sydney Joyce scored the lone Mars Hill goal of the half with 3:12 remaining, capitalizing on a free position.
Nina Cifolilli netted four goals in the second half, leading Wingate to an 8-2 advantage in the second half. Carissa Watson and Maria Fabrizio scored the Lions' tallies in the final 30 minutes of play.
Plotts (4g, 2a) and Madi Caldwell (3g, 3a) led all players with six points followed by Cifolilli's four goals. Joyce led the Lions with one goal and four draw controls, attempting five shots on the day.
The tandem of Gini Joy and Alexandria Holleran recorded nine saves while Megan Biase earned the win, stopping two shots in 60 minutes.
