Women’s Soccer Falls to Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-1
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team lost to league leading Lenoir-Rhyne University 2-1 Wednesday night In the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 6-4-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the SAC. L-R improved to 10-1-1 on the season and 5-0 in the league.
Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) scored the first goal in the match at the 15:30 mark off a header from a corner kick. It was Hauck's fourth of the season. Audrey Moore (Dublin, Ireland) sent the ball in from the corner to pick up her fourth assist on the year.
Brittany Downs (Orlando, Fla.) tied the match at the 39:42 mark by scoring her first goal of the season also on a header from a corner kick. Artavia Murray (Greensboro, N.C.) had the assist (4) on the score. The teams carried the 1-1 tie into the locker room at halftime.
Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) notched the match winner at the 79:44 mark on a breakaway. It was Holt's eighth goal on the season and her third match winner of the year. Hauck assisted the match winning score. Shots were even at 12 per team. The Bears edged the Lions in corner kicks, 7-3. The first two scores of the contest came off corner kicks. MHC was called off sides five times. Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) played the entire match in goal for MHC and made four saves. Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) also played all 90 minutes in the net for L-R and made five saves.
The Lions will play at King College on October 16. Match time in
