MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' women's soccer team lost to SAC rival Tusculum College, 4-0, Saturday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 0-4-1 on the season and 0-2 in the SAC with the loss. The Pioneers improved to 2-3-2 on the year and 1-0-1 in the league.
Amy Neitner scored the first goal of the match at the 14:09 mark on a header off a cross from Monica Perez. Olivia Kilgore gave the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage in the 27th minute when she scored on a loose ball in the box. The assist on the second score went to Taylor Lewis. Nikki Arthur found the net from 25 yards out off a pass from Alisha Pugh to extend the Pioneers lead to 3-0 at the 37:09 mark. Taylor Lewis ended the scoring in the first frame off a long pass from Patti Jordan in the 44th minute. The teams went into the locker room at halftime with the Lions trailing 4-0.
Neither team could find the net in the second half as the Pioneers left with a 4-0 SAC victory. Tusculum outshot the Lions, 15-10. The Pioneers had three corner kicks. Neither team was called offsides. Tori Stajduhar played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lions and made four saves. Marissa Williams also played the entire match in the net for the Pioneers and also made four saves.
Mars Hill will play at Lincoln Memorial University on September 25. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
