Women's Soccer Loses to Wingate
The Lions’ women’s soccer team lost to SAC rival Wingate University 2-0 Friday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 1-6-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference. The Bulldogs improved to 6-1-3 on the season and 3-1-1 in the league.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' women's soccer team lost to SAC rival Wingate University 2-0 Friday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 1-6-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference. The Bulldogs improved to 6-1-3 on the season and 3-1-1 in the league.
Jade Montgomery gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage at the 6:14 mark scoring off a rebound. Taryn Grivois recorded the assist on Montgomery's seventh goal of the season. That was all the scoring for the first half of play.
Macy Franklin added an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 71st minute. That goal made the final score 2-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Wingate outshot the Lions, 31-5. The Bulldogs edged the Lions in corner kicks, 5-2. Wingate was called offsides three times while the Lions were called offsides twice.
Tori Stajduhar played all 90 minutes in goal for MHU and made 16 saves, a season high for the Lions. Lauren Schoonover played the first 20:08 in goal for Wingate. Ashlyn played the final 69:52 in goal for the Bulldogs and made one save.
Mars Hill will play at Lenoir-Rhyne on October 9. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
