MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker on Senior Day as Kenzie Van Heusen scored the game-winning goal with 26 seconds remaining to give Anderson a 2-1 victory on Saturday. Anderson improves to 14-3 and 8-3 in the South Atlantic Conference while Mars Hill ends the season at 4-13-1 and 2-9.
After a scoreless opening half, Idoia Agirre scored her league-leading 20th goal on a through ball from Alaina Gay at the 49:50 mark to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Abby Mills tied the match at 51:38 with her first goal of the season on a breakaway. Following a foul on Mars Hill, Van Heusen finished the rebound off of an Agirre free kick to give Anderson the win.
Anderson outshot Mars Hill 15-3. Abby Helm made one save for the Trojans while Tori Stajduhar made 10 saves for the Lions.
Seniors Tori Stajduhar, Aerial Ellis, Rachel Blong, Hannah Russell and Shelby Savolainen were honored prior to the match.
