MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions defeated Lincoln Memorial in overtime 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 5-8-1 overall and 3-6 in the league. The Railsplitters fell to 3-8-1 on the season, 2-5-1 in the SAC.
In the second overtime period, Aleonya Hunter scored the match winner off a cross from Julia Johnson at the 107:25 mark. It was Hunter's third goal of the season. All three of her goals this season have been match winning scores.
Mars Hill outshot Lincoln Memorial 18-13. The Lions edged the Railsplitters in corner kicks 5-3. LMU was called offsides four times while Mars Hill was called offsides once. Maslyn Greene played all 107:25 minutes in goal for the Lions and made seven saves. Kathryn Lundy also played the entire match in the net for LMU and made eight saves.
Mars Hill will host SAC rival Newberry on Saturday, October 22. Match time is set for 2 p.m. The Lions will recognize their senior players prior to the contest.
