MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill Lions contest versus the King Tornado ended in a 0-0 draw Wednesday evening in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Aleonya Hunter led the Lions with seven attempts at the net.
The first half saw the Lions dictate play, outshooting King 9-3. Alyssa Deno and Hunter had three each. King goalkeeper Olivia Drake stood tall making five saves to keep the contest scoreless at that the end of the first half.
Mars Hill continued to dominate possession in the second half. The Lions attempted six corner kicks in the second frame, but each came up fruitless.
The two overtime frames could not provide a winner despite several close chances. With just over two minutes remaining, King's Miranda Smith rung a shot off the post and crossbar that gave the Lions a late game scare.
Drake made eight saves in the match, while Kaitlyn Danglemaier stopped both shots directed her way.
Mars Hill will be in action Saturday, September 9 when they play at Converse College. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
