MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (0-1-1) earned a 2-2 draw versus Alabama Huntsville (0-1-1) on Sunday afternoon in their 2019 home opener.
Mars Hill's leading goal scorer from last season notched her first of the 2019 campaign as Sanne Martinsen struck in the 22nd minute. Less than two minutes later, the Lions took a penalty which allowed Brynn Colvin to knot the game at one with her first tally of the day.
Colvin scored once more less than eight minutes later in the 32nd minute to put the Chargers up by one. Following several chances, the Lions were unable to even the score before the half. Mars Hill outshot Alabama Huntsville 7-4 in the first 45 minutes.
Mars Hill's resiliency paid dividends in the second half as Mikayla Johnson scored the game-tying goal off of a give-and-go with Martinsen for her first collegiate marker.
The Lions once again outshot the Chargers in the second half, but could not find the back of the net once more to end the game in regulation. Following two competitively fought overtime frames, the clock struck zero and the teams picked up their first draws of the season.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Wednesday, September 11th when they take on UNC Asheville. The contest is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
