Women's Swim Loses to Limestone
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill College swimming teams competed against Limstone College Saturday afternoon at Harrell Pool. The men won a close meet (131-130) while the women fell 138-122. It was the Lions' first meet of the 2010-11 season. The men keep a four-year streak alive.
Mars Hill College men's swimming team kept their home win streak alive with a one-point victory over perennial powerhouse Limestone College 131-130. The men have never lost a home meet since their inception four years ago. In those four years the Lions are 13-0 in Harrell Pool and their overall record is 22-2.
Leading the men's team was Hudson Tucker (Brookwood, Ala.) and Ed Smith (Blairsville, Ga.) with three wins apiece. Hudson broke two school records in the process in his 50 back (24.43) and the 100 back (52.64) while winning the 100 back, 200 back and the 200 medley relay. Ed won the 100 breast, 200 individual medley and the 200 medley relay. Other winners for the men were Tyler Treadway (Pineville, La.) who won the 100 fly and 200 medley relay and Audley Elder (Waynesville, N.C.) for the 200 breast.
The women's team lost to Limestone 138-122 despite the effort of Nicole Day (Maggie Valley, N.C.) who broke three individual records in her events. She broke the 200 free despite being out touched in the race for first place. She won the 50 free and the 200 individual medley while setting records in those events. She was also a part of the winning 200 free relay team which was made up of Day, Lena Palo (Lexington, S.C.), Ashley Varga (Port Charlotte, Fla.), and Tiffany Golding (Dobson, N.C.). Katy Sorrells (Canton, N.C.) won the 200 breast to finish out the wins for the women's team.
Both teams will compete at Warren Wilson on October 8. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m.
