Lions Punch SAC Tournament Ticket with Win Over LMU
Needing a victory over Lincoln Memorial to clinch the final spot in the South Atlantic Conference tournament, the Mars Hill women’s tennis team earned a 5-4 win over the Railsplitters.
MARS HILL, N.C. - Needing a victory over Lincoln Memorial to clinch the final spot in the South Atlantic Conference tournament, the Mars Hill women's tennis team earned a 5-4 win over the Railsplitters to return to the tournament after a one year absence. Mars Hill completes the regular season at 9-9 overall and 6-5 in league play.
Mars Hill held a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to wins in the top two flights. In number one doubles, Tatiana Dualiby and Lucy McLaurin defeated Elena Vasilyeva and Gemma Goodland 8-4. Anna Rickenbaker and Jade Henke were 8-3 winners over Alexandra Granger and Roksolana Prudyvus.
Dualiby defeated Vasilyeva in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, to give Mars Hill a 3-1 lead. Goodland outlasted McLaurin 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 to pull the Railsplitters within a match. Rickenbaker was a winner in her final home singles match, defeating Bulandres 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, giving Mars Hill a 4-2 lead. Henke clinched the match for the Lions in number four singles, defeating Prudyvus 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in three sets.
Dualiby and Rickenbaker were honored as part of Senior Day ceremonies prior to the match.
Mars Hill awaits a to-be-determined opponent in the South Atlantic Conference quarterfinals at the Rock Hill Tennis Center on Wednesday.
