Mars Hill selected 11th in SAC preseason poll
The Mars Hill women's tennis team received 22 votes in the 2019 South Atlantic Conference preseason poll, as released by the league Friday afternoon.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate has been voted as the 2019 South Atlantic Conference women's tennis preseason poll favorite, the league office announced today. The League's head coaches gave the Bulldogs six first-place votes and a total of 106 points.
Queens was voted second with three first-place votes and 100 points, while Tusculum was picked third with two first-place votes and 97 points. Newberry was voted in at No. 4 with 74 points, followed by Anderson at No. 5 with 70 points.
Lincoln Memorial placed No. 6 with 68 points and Lenoir-Rhyne was voted No. 7 with 55 points. Catawba took the No. 8 spot with 50 points, while Carson-Newman was voted No. 9 with 43 points. Coker followed with 30 points at No. 10, and Mars Hill was No. 11 with 22 points.
The SAC also announced its preseason all-conference teams. The first team doubles partners were Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough and Amber Lackey and Africa Mota from Tusculum and Yana Fleyer and Sasha Davidzenka from Queens.
In singles, Michela Verpelli and Claudia De Andreis of Wingate were named first team, along with Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough from Tusculum. Rounding out the first team selections were Fleyer and Davidzenka from Queens.
The 2019 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis season gets underway on Friday, Feb. 1. The 2019 SAC Women's Tennis Championship is set for April 15, 18-19 with quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and finals taking place at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
