Allen Shelley was named the Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Sports Medicine in the summer of 2020.

Shelley was named the Director of Athletic Training in August of 1994. Allen came to the Lions from Gardner-Webb University. He graduated from Gardner-Webb with a bachelor of science degree in 1992 and completed his master’s degree August of 1995 also from Gardner-Webb University. Allen had the pleasure of serving as the District 3 Representative for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) College and University Athletic Trainers’ Committee (CUATC) while also serving on the NATA Committee on Revenue for the College and University Value Model. He also served as the Chair of the NATA CUATC Honors and Awards subcommittee. Allen was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2001, received the Snow Faculty Caring Award in 2005, and was selected by the student body to receive the Outstanding Faculty Award in 2014. In 2011 he was honored with the Madison High School HOSA Community Service Award. Allen received a National Athletic Trainers Association Athletic Trainer Service Award in 2015. In 2015 he was also recognized as the National Athletic Trainers Association College/University Athletic Trainers Committee Division 2 Head Athletic Trainer of the Year. The Mars Hill University Athletic Training staff has been named the South Atlantic Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year for 2015-2016, 2013-2014, 2010-2011, 2007-2008, 2003-2004, 2001-2002, 1999-2000, and 1997-1998. Allen is a member and serves as a Deacon at Mars Hill Baptist Church. Allen is married to the former Jennifer Mitchell and they reside in Mars Hill with their daughter Lilly.
