Athletic Highlights: September 24 – October 1, 2018
Football: The Mars Hill football team defeated Limestone by a score of 51-41, avenging last season's loss to the Saints, on Saturday night. Craig Rucker set a school and South Atlantic Conference record with five touchdown receptions on the night. He had nine total receptions for 221 yards and the five scores. Austin Brown went 19-of-30 for 371 yards and tied a school record with six touchdown passes. Both Rucker and Brown were named SAC Co-Offensive Players of the Week with their record-setting performances. Earl Adams had a team-high 10 tackles.
Men's Soccer: Mars Hill dominated in their 6-2 win over Catawba. The Lions had six different goal scorers on the night. Rasmus Nielsen opened the scoring and was followed by goals from Sebastian Bertilsson, Oscar Mitchell, Jordan Lennon, Carlos Ayala-Viera and Derek Kaple. Both Jeppe Christensen and Jimmy Char had two assists.
Men's Tennis: The Lions won over Lees-McRae by a score of 6-1 at home. The win marked their second straight. Tom Farman, Fernando Neto and Ben Reid remain undefeated in singles competition.
Women's Tennis: The Lions picked up their third straight win, defeating Lees-McRae by a score of 5-2 on Saturday. Trailing 2-0, Mars Hill reeled off five straight singles victories to earn the win. Victoria Franklin, Haley Steinkamp and Emma Horner remain undefeated in singles competition.
Men's Golf: The Mars Hill A-Team won the Mars Hill University Fall Invitational in a weather-shortened tournament. Nicholas Boone finished third overall, shooting a 73 overall; one over par.
Women's Golf: Mars Hill placed fourth at the Mars Hill University Fall Invitational in a weather-shortened tournament. Linnea Karlsson placed 13th overall and was the top finishing Lion.
Men's Cross Country: The Lions placed 10th at the North Georgia Invitational Saturday morning. Jared Stanley was the top performer for the Lions, turning in a time of 27:42.39.
Women's Cross Country: Mars Hill placed 10th overall at the North Georgia Invitational Saturday morning. Nyla Feeney turned in her second consecutive top-10 finish, placing ninth overall with her personal best time of 24:05.37.
Volleyball: Mars Hill earned two important conference wins this past week, downing Tusculum in straight sets and grinding out a four-set win over Lincoln Memorial, who entered Friday's contest as the third ranked team in the conference. Maddie Spurgeon had 27 kills over the two games, including a team-high 17 versus LMU. Elizabeth Kaeser had 23 kills, 20 digs, five aces and three blocks.
