Football’s Baker Named SAC Defensive PoW
Baker had 44 yard INT return for touchdown
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Mars Hill football's Josh Baker has been named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Baker, from Skyland, N.C., led the Lions to a 45-39 win over No. 13 Tusculum on Saturday. He was responsible for two scores even though he played on the defensive side of the ball. Baker recovered a fumble that ricocheted off a Pioneer player at the visitor's 44 yard line. Two plays later, the Lions scored to lead 21-6 in the first quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Baker returned an interception 44 yards to give Mars Hill a 45-26 advantage with 10:04 left in the game that sealed the win. For the day, he recorded seven tackles, a tackle-for-loss, a fumble recovery and an interception.
Catawba wide receiver Brandon Bunn was named the Offensive Player of the Week. Wingate defensive back Timmy Rogers was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mars Hill will travel to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
