Football’s Randolph Breaks All-Purpose TD Record
Randolph, Richt, Gore have set new records in 2010
MARS HILL, N.C. - With 28 career touchdowns, Mars Hill running back Jonas Randolph recently broke the school record for most all-purpose touchdowns in a career. Only a junior, the D2Football.com Preseason All-American broke the mark of 25 previously held by Ronnie Capps (1972-75) and Ronnie Reeves (1972-1975).
Randolph scored the game-winning touchdown against Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday on a 50-yard reception from Luis Cruz (Anaheim, Calif.) with 37 seconds left in the game. The score was Randolph's first receiving touchdown of his career.
For the season, the Daleville, Ala., native has rushed for 562 yards, which ranks third in the South Atlantic Conference. Randolph has scored six total touchdowns, five on the ground and one receiving.
Randolph joins Jon Richt (Watkinsville, Ga.) and P.J. Gore (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) on the list of Mars Hill football players that have broken school records during the season. In the third game of the season at St. Augustine's, Richt set a new school mark with five touchdown passes in a single game. Gore tied a school record with three touchdown receptions in the game.
In 2009, Randolph rewrote the Mars Hill and South Atlantic Conference record books. He broke seven school records, one SAC record and twice tied one school record. He set the school records for most single-season rushing yards, single-season rushing touchdowns (19), single-season all-purpose touchdowns (19), rushing attempts in a single season (312), rushing attempts in a single game (44 rushes vs. Catawba), most points scored in a single game (24 twice: vs. Newberry and Tusculum), and most points scored in a single season (114). Randolph set the South Atlantic Conference record for highest per game average rushing (180.4).
He also twice tied the school record for most rushing touchdowns in a single game (four vs. Newberry and Tusculum).
Mars Hill will host Newberry on Saturday with first place on the line in the conference standings. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
