Randolph, O-Line named National Players of Week
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill tailback Jonas Randolph has been named the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Division II Week Nine National Offensive Player of the Week. The Daleville, Ala., native wins the award for the third time in 2011. The Lions' starting offensive line from Saturday's game at Tusculum, consisting of Nick Allison, Nicholas Harp, Giovanny Plietes, Neal Dwyer, Tyler Hodgson and Josh Crumpton, has been named the Division II National Offensive Line of the Week.
Randolph had the best rushing day in South Atlantic Conference history on Saturday, finishing with 49 carries for 373 yards - both setting conference records - in the Lions' win over Tusculum. His 373 yards were the most in Division II this season and the ninth-most in DII history. The 49 carries were also the most in any NCAA division this year. For his efforts, he was named SAC Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in 2011.
Randolph has the two highest single-game carry totals (49 vs. Tusculum; 43 vs. Catawba) in NCAA Division II in 2011.
The performance against the Pioneers also vaulted Randolph into second on the SAC's all-time rushing yards list, and he became just the second player in league history to surpass 5,000 yards. Randolph leads all NCAA divisions in rushing (1,738) this season and is the active career leading rusher (5,176) in the NCAA among all divisions.
Mars Hill's offensive line sparked the Lions to 565 total yards against the Pioneers. In the game, Mars Hill amassed 376 yards on the ground and four rushing touchdowns. The Lions totaled 189 passing yards and two touchdowns.
