Football ranked second in Super Region Two
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill football team is ranked second in Super Region Two in the second installment of the NCAA Regional Rankings, which were released today. The Lions (7-2) are 7-1 against Super Region Two competition and climb two spots from last week's poll.
The regional rankings, as voted on by the NCAA Division II Football Committee, are the official poll used in the Division II Football Championship's selection process.
Mars Hill is coming off an impressive 47-37 win at Tusculum on Saturday that kept the Lions on top of the SAC standings. The Lions are led by All-America candidate Jonas Randolph, who leads the nation in rushing and set a SAC record with 373 yards on Saturday against the Pioneers.
Delta State tops the regional standings. West Alabama, North Alabama, North Greenville, Valdosta State, Albany State, Morehouse, UNC-Pembroke and West Georgia round out the top 10. Mars Hill defeated North Greenville earlier this season.
The regional rankings will continue to be released weekly until the NCAA Division II Selection Show on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. The top six teams in the final regional poll will advance to the Division II playoffs to compete for the national championship. The top two seeds in the regional standings will receive a bye through the first round of the playoffs.
Mars Hill (No. 25 AFCA) hosts Carson-Newman on Saturday, Nov. 12, in the regular-season finale and can clinch at least a share of the conference championship with a win. Kickoff from the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
