Hodgson named Academic All-American
TOWSON, Md. - Mars Hill right tackle Tyler Hodgson has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Football second team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In the classroom, Hodgson sports a 3.69 Grade Point Average in Business Administration. On the field, the senior from Woodstock, Ga., started on Mars Hill's offensive line for the previous three seasons and helped lead the Lions this season to their first South Atlantic Conference title and postseason appearance as a Division II institution.
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-II Academic All-America® teams program.
Four members of the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Football first team and eight members of the second team represent teams that qualified for the NCAA Division II Football Championship.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Football Teams
