Davis named Offensive Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C.-- Mars Hilll's Shaikel Davis was named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Davis played a crucial role in the Lions 42-7 victory over North Greenville last Saturday. The sophomore running back rushed for 190 yards on 24 carries, an average of 7.9 yards per rush. Davis' performance also included touchdown runs of 14-and-16 yards. The Lions improved to 2-2 on the season with the victory.
On the season, Davis is averaging a SAC-best 120.8 yards rushing per game. He has totalled 483 yards on 78 carries, a 6.2 yards-per-rush average, and three touchdowns thus far.
Wingate's Richie Kazazian was named Defensive Player of the Week, while fellow Bulldog Matthew Sierk earned Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Lions will look to extend their two-game winning streak and remain undefeated in conference play when they host undefeated Newberry this Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m. in Meares Stadium.
