Lions Receiving Votes in AFCA Poll
MARS HILL, N.C.-- The Mars Hill football team is receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' Top 25 Week 7 Poll, which was released Monday.
The Lions received four Top 25 votes in the poll, which unofficially ranks them 40th in the nation. Mars Hill is 5-2 overall this season and undefeated against Division II opponents. The Lions are coming off a 35-28 victory over Catawba on Homecoming this past Saturday, which pushed the Lions' winning streak to five. Quarterback Jon Richt set school records for most passing attempts (52), completions (33) and yards (370) in the victory.
Mars Hill is the only South Atlantic Conference school receiving votes in the AFCA poll. The Lions are in first place in the SAC with a 4-0 conference record. MHC will travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a matchup with the Bears this Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2:00 p.m.
Offensively, Mars Hill has featured a balanced offensive attack in averaging 256 yards passing and 192 yards rushing per contest. The Lions have outgained opponents by an average of 105 yards per game. The MHC defense has sacked opponents 21 times, an average of three per game.
