Mason Named NCAA Defensive Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- Mars Hill's Jasper Mason has been named the NCAA.com Division II Defensive Player of the Week, which was announced Wednesday.
Mason recorded a career and team season-high 21 tackles to help the 6-3 Lions stay atop the South Atlantic Conference standings in a 23-20 victory over Tusculum. Eleven of his stops were solo. He added a sack and a tackle-for-loss. NCAA.com is the official site of the NCAA. The NCAA names players of the week for each NCAA Division every week throughout the season.
Mason leads the Mars Hill defense with 90 tackles this season. The junior has 5.5 tackles-for-loss, and has forced and recovered a fumble. His 10 tackles per game rank fourth in the SAC. He is the first Lion to be recognized by the NCAA as a player of the week this season.

Mars Hill is off this week. The Lions will close the regular-season when they travel to Carson-Newman for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on Nov. 10.
