Nyang Named Honorable Mention All-American
MARS HILL, N.C.-- Mars Hill defensive lineman Mam Nyang was named an Honorable Mention member of the 2012 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team, which was released Friday.
Nyang, a senior standout on the Lions defense, tied for third in the South Atlantic Conference with five sacks. The Marietta, Ga. native totaled 67 tackles, including 7.5 for loss, and forced two fumbles this season. Nyang became eligible for Don Hansen All-American consideration after being named to the Don Hansen All-Super Region Two team, which was released earlier this week. The All-America teams were selected by the Don Hansen Football Committee.
This is the latest among a host of postseason awards earned by Nyang. In addition to his All-American and All-Super Region Two honors from Don Hansen, Nyang also earned First-Team All-SAC Defense recognition.
The Don Hansen Division II All-America Team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at the age of 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, a native of Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Football Weekly Gazette for three decades, selection NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
A total of 175 players were recognized with Don Hansen All-America honors. Players from 83 of the 157 football-playing Division II schools earned Don Hansen All-America accolades.
