Richt to Play in College Football All-Star Game
MONTGOMERY, Ala.-- Mars Hill quarterback Jon Richt will play in the 2013 Raycom College Football All-Star Classic this Saturday at the Crampton Bowl.
Richt started every game at quarterback for the Lions this past season, completing 200-of-386 passes for 2,936 yards and 25 touchdowns. He finished his career as the school's all-time leader in completions (567), attempts (1,109), yards (8,169) and touchdown passes (69). The inaugural Raycom College Football All-Star Classic will kick-off on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 3:00 p.m. (EST) at the Crampton Bowl. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
Some of college football's top NFL prospects will be divided into two rosters for the game- the Stars, and Stripes. Richt is one of three quarterbacks on the Stripes roster, and the only Division II quarterback on either roster. Joining Richt on the Stripes roster will be a pair of Big Ten signal callers- James Vandenberg of Iowa, and Robert Marve of Purdue. Richt is one of six Division II student-athletes on the Stripes roster.
Richt will have the opportunity to be tutored by former NFL head coach Dan Reeves, who will be the head coach of the Stripes team. Richt said he is hoping NFL scouts will take notice of his skills during the week's practices and Saturday's game.
"It's more mental being able to come in here and learn a playbook within a week and going and execute as a team to the best of our abilities," said Richt. "Then to be able to come out and compete with some of these guys has been fun."
The Raycom College Football All-Star Classic is a week-long event that features elite college football seniors participating in NFL-formatted practices that are open to the public. The Raycom College Football All-Star Classic will be coached by former NFL head coaches Jim Bates and Dan Reeves.
