Six Lions Earn All-Region Honors From Don Hansen's Football Gazette
BROOKFIELD, Ill. - A total of six Mars Hill Lions have earned All-Super Region Two honors from Don Hansen's Football Gazette, as announced Tuesday.
BROOKFIELD, Ill. - A total of six Mars Hill Lions have earned All-Super Region Two honors from Don Hansen's Football Gazette, as announced Tuesday.
The list of honorees is led by first-team all-region receiver Keshaun Taylor and defensive guard Johnny Maxey. On the second-team are receiver Gilbert Johnson and safety Trey Clark. On the third-team are running back Shaikel Davis and center Joe Hillin.
Taylor, a receiver from Homestead, Fla., garners the first-team selection to go along with his first-team All-SAC selection. Keshaun led the conference in yards per game (107.5) and hauled in a team-leading 79 receptions, 1183 yards, and 10 TDs, exploding for four touchdowns at Chattanooga on September 12.
Maxey, a defensive lineman from Columbia, S.C., joins Taylor on the first-team. He adds this accolade to his second-team All-SAC accomplishment. Johnny amassed 82 tackles on the season, including three sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. He collected a season-high 14 tackles versus North Greenville on October 3.
Johnson, a wide out from Homestead, Fla., adds this award to go along with his selection as the South Atlantic Conference Freshman-of-the-Year as well as All-SAC First-Team. Johnson hauled in six touchdowns on the season for MHU, highlighting his season with a three TD performance against Lenoir-Rhyne on Oct. 24.
Safety, Trey Clark, from Asheville, N.C. boasts an impressive season as he finds himself on the second-team list. Clark also received second-team recognitions from the SAC after leading the conference in tackles per game (8.8) and collected a team-best 97 tackles on the season, including 16 in the season opener on September 5 at Western Carolina.
Davis, a running back from East Flat Rock, N.C., presents a third-team selection after being named to the second-team All-SAC following the 2015 season. Shaikel led the Lions in rushing as he totaled 951 yards on 168 carries, scoring seven TDs and averaging just over 105 yards per game. Davis ran for a season-high 162 yards on November 14 at Brevard.
Hillin, an offensive lineman from Atlanta, Ga., joined Davis on the third-team honoree list as he also collected a second-team All-SAC honor in 2015. Joe led the way for an offense that averaged 27.6 points per game and 408 yards of total offense per contest.
