Men’s Basketball Falls at Lander
Holt scores 25 in the loss
GREENWOOD, S.C. - Mars Hill's men's basketball team lost on the road to Lander University, 103-80. The Lions fell to 2-4 on the year while the Bearcats improved to 4-1 on the season.
Kacey Holt led the Lions with a game high 25 points hitting five 3-pointers. Daron Guyton and Will White followed with 13 points apiece. Kiko Lopez rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Lions with 11. MHC did not shoot well hitting only 35.1% (27-77) from the floor.
Dermaine Smith led the Bearcats with 20 points followed by David Pruett with 17 points and nine rebounds. Lander hit 56.8% (42-74) of their field goal attempts and out rebounded the Lions, 61-29.
After Will White hit a shot in the lane to make the score 4-2 in favor of the hosts, Lander went on a 28-6 run to lead by 24 points (32-8) with 9:27 left in the first half. The Bearcats took a 20-point lead (53-33) lead into the locker room at the intermission.
The Lions were not able to chip away at the deficit in the second half. Lander led by as many as 37 points (77-40) after Mario Pendarvis hit a free throw with 13:10 remaining in regulation. Lander scored 60 points in the paint and 20 off second chance baskets.
Mars Hill will play at Limestone College on December 15. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
