Men’s Basketball Loses at Catawba
Thiam records eighth double-double in loss
SALISBURY, N.C. - Host Catawba placed five players in double figures in defeating Mars Hill, 81-64 in men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The Catawba Indians put an end to a three-game losing streak, improving to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 3-12 and 0-7.
Tyrece Little led Catawba with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Lee Martin also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Reggie Perkins followed with 15 points with Elon Edwards scoring 12 points and Vismantas Marijosius reached a career-high 11 points.
Khouraichi Thiam led Mars Hill with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Kacey Holt came off the bench to score 15 points and Jalen Witherspoon chipped in with 10 points.
Catawba never trailed and used a 12-2 run, capped by consecutive three-pointers by Martin, to go up by double digits after seven minutes at 19-8. The Indians increased their margin to 18 in the opening half and took a 39-22 lead at the break. Mars Hill got within 13 early in the second half, but Catawba put the game away with an 18-5 run over a six minute span to lead 60-34 with 11:24 left.
Catawba canned 49% from the floor and went 9-of-21 (43%) from long range. The Lions made just 33% and was 3-of-12 from behind the arc. The Indians held a 41-36 edge on the boards.
MHC will host Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday in Stanford Arena. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
