Men's Basketball Falls at King
Mars Hill’s men’s basketball team lost on the road Wednesday night at King University, 131-69.
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Mars Hill's men's basketball team lost on the road Wednesday night at King University, 131-69. The Lions fell to 0-2 on the year while the Tornados evened their record to 1-1 on the season.
Jake Handshoe led the Lions in scoring with 12 points followed by Amin Abuhawwas and Devonte Williams who added 10 points apiece.
Hunter LeVeau and Logan Lyle led King scoring 22 points each. LeVeau recorded a double-double adding 11 rebounds. C.J. Good scored 18 points off of six shots from behind the arc while Scottie Hendricks added 17 points including five 3-pointers. King connected on 52.9% (27-51) of their 3-point field goals. The Tornados also out rebounded the Lions, 51-41 and converted 33 points off of Lion miscues.
Lyle hit a shot from behind the arc five seconds into the game and the Tornados would never trail again. King scored the first 10 points of the game and held at least a nine-point advantage for the remainder of the first half of play. The Tornados enjoyed a 22-point lead (58-36) at the intermission.
The second half belonged to King. The Lions would not be able to find a way to climb back into the contest as King outscored MHU 73-33 in the second frame to make the final tally 131-69 in favor of the hosts.
Mars Hill will play an exhibition game at Longwood University on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
