Men's Basketball Loses at Anderson
The Lions’ men’s basketball team lost on the road at Anderson 106-76 Monday night in South Atlantic Conference action at the Abney Center.
ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lions' men's basketball team lost on the road at Anderson 106-76 Monday night in South Atlantic Conference action at the Abney Center. Mars Hill fell to 5-18 overall and 3-15 in the SAC. The Trojans improved to 18-6 on the year, 13-5 in the league.
Devonte Williams led Mars Hill with a game high 27 points and five rebounds. Carter Wright added 17 points while Kevin Haynes tallied 11. Isaiah Cuthbertson recorded a game high 10 rebounds in the contest. MHU did not shoot well in the game connecting on only 35.8% (24-67) of their field goal attempts.
Chandler Hash and CJ Gleaton led the Trojans with 19 points apiece. Chris Ross scored 11 while Myson Jones, Myles Daniel and Tony Dargan recorded 10 points each. Anderson hit 51.5% (34-66) of their shots from the floor, received 45 points from their bench and scored 42 points in the paint.
The Trojans jumped out to an 8-0 lead after a tip-in by Tony Dargan with 16:20 left in the first half. Anderson outscored MHU 26-11 over the next seven minutes to lead by 23 points (34-11) with 9:21 on the clock after Chandler Hash hit a shot in the lane. The Lions fought back going on a 28-17 run to trim the deficit to 12 points (51-39) with 1:34 left in the opening period after Jake Handshoe hit a shot from behind the arc. Anderson scored five unanswered points to close out the half and take a 56-39 lead into the locker room at the break.
A 3-pointer by Myson Jones with 16:38 left in the contest capped off a 12-6 run to give the Trojans a 23 point advantage. MHU cut the lead to 14 points (76-62) at the 9:47 mark when Kevin Haynes nailed a 3-pointer but that was as close as the Lions would get. Anderson outscored MHU 28-8 in the final minutes of the game to take their largest lead of 34 points (104-70) after Will Keistler hit a 3-point basket.
Mars Hill will play at Tusculum on Wednesday night, February 19. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Pioneer Arena.
