Second-Ranked Lincoln Memorial Defeats Men's Basketball

MARS HILL, N.C.- The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team opened Wednesday's contest against Mars Hill on a 14-2 run as they defeated the Lions 96-64 in South Atlantic Conference action in Stanford Arena on Wednesday. Lincoln Memorial, the No. 2 team in this week's NABC/USA Today NCAA Division II poll, improves to 17-0 and 11-0 in the league while the Lions fall to 7-10 and 2-9.
Michael Carson led Mars Hill with 14 points, followed by 13 from Isaiah Cuthbertson and 11 from Brandon McCarter. Kevin Haynes led the Lions with seven rebounds.
The Railsplitters had four of their five starters in double digits, led by Luquon Choice with 16 points. Keenan Peters and Lorenza Ross both had 12 points followed by 10 from Dorian Pinson. Emanuel Terry scored 16 points off of the bench and had a team-high seven rebounds.
Peterson opened the scoring with a layup 32 seconds into the game as the Railsplitters led 14-2 at the first media timeout and 25-9 at the midway point of the first half. A Kesio Viegas free three brought the Lions to within 14 (31-17) before the Railsplitters led 42-22 at halftime.
An Anderson layup with 15:14 to play brought the Lions to within 17 (52-35), but it was as close as Mars Hill would get as the Railsplitters led by as many as 33 (85-52) as they cruised to their 17th consecutive victory.
Mars Hill welcomes Lenoir-Rhyne at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
