Men's Basketball Falls to Queens

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' lost 119-78 to no. 6 Queens in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Saturday evening in Stanford Arena. Mars Hill fell to 5-19 overall and 3-15 in the league. The Royals improved to 22-2 on the season, 16-2 in the SAC.
Bennett Wilson led Mars Hill with 19 points followed by Cody Hylton who came off the bench to score 12 points. Hylton was 4-4 from behind the arc. Mars Hill hit 42.9% (27-63) of their field goals, 50% (9-18) of their three-point attempts and 75% (15-20) of their attempts at the foul line.
Mike Davis led Queens with 23 points followed by Daniel Carr who came off the bench to tally 17 points. Daniel Camps added 15 points and four rebounds. The Royals won the battle of the boards, 42-28. Queens connected on 60% (42-70) of their field goals, 42.3% (11-26) of their three-point attempts and 77.4% of their free throws.
Todd Withers scored inside with 17:14 left in the first half to give Queens a 7-6 lead and the Royals would never trail again. A layup by Tate Small with 8:36 left in the first half gave Queens a 40-19 advantage. The Royals went on to lead by 22 points (60-38) at the break after Davis converted a pair of free throws to close out the first period.
Mars Hill would not get any closer in the second half. Queens led by as many as 47 points (110-63) with 4:57 on the clock after Darryl White converted a couple shots at the charity stripe. Queens cruised down the stretch to the 119-78 victory. Queens shot extremely well in the final period converting on 65.6% (21-32) of their field goal attempts.
Mars Hill will host SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, February 15. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
