Mars Hill Wins Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate
The Mars Hill men’s golf team claimed their first team title of the 2014-15 season with a win at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, held at the par-72, 6,797-yard Dan Maples Course at Sea Trail Resort.
SUNSET BEACH, N.C.- The Mars Hill men's golf team claimed their first team title of the 2014-15 season with a win at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, held at the par-72, 6,797-yard Dan Maples Course at Sea Trail Resort. The Lions finished with a 36-hole score of 573, one stroke better than Wingate.
Chevy Hartzog continued his strong season with a four-under-par 68 to finish the tournament with a team-best 138 and a third place finish. Hartzog earned All-Tournament laurels for his efforts. Adam Lumley fired a season-best 69 to finish in a tie for 11th. Nick Caruso shot a one-over-par 73 for a 143 and a tie for 11th. Antonio Douat finished in 44th place with a 149 and Nick Quesnel wrapped up the tournament with a 157.
"I'm so proud of the way our guys battled the last two days against a very strong regional field," head men's golf coach Ed Hoffmeyer said. "Our kids have worked hard to gain respect as a team and today that work paid off. Chevy Hartzog has played outstanding this fall and continued today, but this was a total team victory with significant contributions from Adam Lumley, Nick Caruso, Antonio Douat and Nick Quesnel." The Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate is Mars Hill's first team win since the Roanoke Invitational on April 5-6, 2014.
Wingate's Tyler Stone defeated teammate Benedict Gebhardt in the first playoff hole for medalist honors.
Mars Hill returns to the course next week at the State Farm Intercollegiate at Woodlake Country Club in Tazewell, Tenn.
