Hartzog Wins Tusculum Fall Classic
Chevy Hartzog was the individual winner of the 2015 Tusculum Fall Classic
GREENEVILLE, TENN.- Mars Hill senior Chevy Hartzog claimed medalist honors at the Tusculum Fall Invite on Tuesday as he won his first tournament of the 2015-16 season. Mars Hill finished in a tie for third place. The tournament was shortened from its scheduled 36 holes to 27 holes following a late morning rain delay in the final round.
Hartzog shot a 33 over nine holes in the second round to finish with a 99, two strokes better than Tusculum's Brad Hawkins. The Tusculum Fall Invite is second straight tournament where a Mars Hill student-athlete has been the individual winner as Adam Lumley won the season-opening Etowah Intercollegiate last week. It is also Hartzog's second career medalist honor as he won the Echo Farms Invitational on March 1, 2015.
Lumley finished in a tie for ninth place after a 34 in Tuesday's second round. Alejandro Canizares shot a 40 to finish with a 113 and a tie for 29th. Nick Caruso and Dalton Thompson were part of a six player tie for 31st as each finished with a 114. Caruso shot a 38 on Tuesday while Thompson fired a 35.
Tusculum won the tournament with a team score of 418, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne with a score of 427. Mars Hill and Walters State each finished with a 428.
Mars Hill returns to action next week at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate held at Lions Paw Golf Links. The Lions won the tournament in 2014 when it was held at Sea Trail Resort.
