Lacrosse Wins Season Opener
LAURINBURG, N.C. - Mars Hill's lacrosse team won their season opener Wednesday afternoon defeating St. Andrews College 12-6 on the road. The Lions outshot the Knights, 49-27 in the win.
Jamie Raezer came off the bench to score four goals to lead MHC. Tyler Farmer followed with three goals and one assist. Kile Garrett added a pair of goals while T.J. Cowx scored one goal and provided his teammates with two assists. Dylan Price played all 90 minutes in the net for MHC and made six saves. MHC won the ground ball battle, 44-38. The Lions were 7-10 in extra-man opportunities.
Patrick Wade led SAPC with three goals and one assist. Stephen Murphy had a pair of goals in the loss. Kyle Davitt also played the entire game in the net for the Knights and made 24 saves.
The first half was closely played. The Lions held a slim 2-1 lead after the first quarter and then won the second frame 3-2 to take a 5-3 advantage into the locker room at the intermission. The Lions then outscored the Knights 3-1 in the third stanza and 4-2 in the final period to make the final tally 12-6 in favor of the visitors.
MHC will host Molloy College on Saturday. Game time in the
Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium is set for a 2
p.m. start.
