No. 9 Lacrosse Beats Molloy, 15-5
Farmer, Benesch combined for 10 of 15 goals scored
MARS HILL, N.C. - Tyler Farmer scored six goals and Eric Benesch added four goals to lift the Lions over Molloy College, 15-5, in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill, ranked No. 9 in the latest USILA poll improved to 2-0 while Molloy fell to 0-1 on the year.
Benesch added three assists while Farmer supplied one. Kyle Garrett scored twice and provided his teammates with three assists. Dylan Price played well in the net for the Lions accumulating 19 saves in 57:12 minutes of work. Jesse Mimken played the final 2:48 in goal for MHC and made a pair of saves.
MHC outshot Molloy, 55-35. The Lions won the ground ball battle, 48-30 and edged Molloy in face-offs, 13-10.
Brandon Peyer led Molloy with two goals followed by Kenny Lutz and Steven Genovese who recorded a goal and an assist apiece. Glenn Greubel played all 60 minutes in goal for Molloy and made 19 saves.
The first quarter was closely played as MHC led only 2-1 after the first 15 minutes of play. The Lions then exploded for seven goals in the second frame to take a 9-3 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
MHC won the third stanza 4-1 and then won the last period by a 2-1 margin to make the final tally 15-5 in favor of the home team. The Lions never trailed in the contest.
Mars Hill will host Lenoir-Rhyne College on February 26. Game
time is set for a 1 p.m. start.
