Farmer and Souers Named DSC Players of the Week
Farmer wins award for second straight week
WINGATE, N.C. - Mars Hill College senior attack Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) is the Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, while teammate Benton Souers (Portland, Ore.) is the Freshman of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Catawba College junior goalie Michael Pecchia (Coquitlum, B.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week.
A 2010 All-DSC selection, Farmer led the ninth-ranked Lions to a 25-6 league victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University. In 30 minutes of action, Farmer netted six goals and handed out an assist. He took nine shots on the afternoon, with eight shots on goal as the Lions improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Deep South Conference.
Pecchia helped lead Catawba to a pair of wins last week, as the Indians improved to 3-0 on the season. He notched 15 saves in Catawba's 8-6 win over Pfeiffer. That total included two saves in the closing minutes to fend off a Pfeiffer rally. Pecchia played 22 minutes in Catawba's 24-0 win over Ohio Valley, stopping all three shots he faced as the Indians recorded their first-ever shutout in program history. Pecchia had a 4.39 goals against average on the week, with a .750 save percentage, while collecting three ground balls and causing a turnover.
Souers netted three goals in four shots for ninth-ranked Mars
Hill in the victory over LRU. He also handed out a pair of assists
and collected two ground balls as the Lions remained unbeaten on
the season.
