No. 3 Mercyhurst defeats No. 8 Lacrosse
MARS HILL, N.C. - No. 3 Mercyhurst outscored No. 8 Mars Hill 8-3 in the second half to pull out a 12-6 win at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lakers improve to 2-0, and the Lions fall to 3-1.
Kyle Kallay and Kevin Coholan each scored three goals for Mercyhurst. Zac Reid had two goals. Andy Winslow, James Chayka, Gregory Bensman and Brad Romancik each scored one goal.
Eric Benesch and Jamie Raezer each had two goals for Mars Hill. T.J. Cowx and Ben Demarco each scored one goal. Tyler Farmer had an assist on 11 shots.
Zach Nash made eight saves for the Lakers. Dylan Price had seven saves for the Lions.
Mars Hill jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first quarter off a Benesch goal. Kallay scored back-to-back goals before Benesch scored his second to tie the game at two at the end of the first quarter.
The Lakers outscored the Lions 2-1 in the second quarter and led 4-3 at halftime.
Mars Hill cut the deficit to one goal, 7-6, with 2:17 left in the third quarter. Cowx found the back of the net, but Mercyhurst scored the last five goals of the game for the final margin.
Mars Hill will travel to Belmont Abbey on Wednesday. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
