Benesch, Price Named DSC Players of the Week
WINGATE, N.C. - Mars Hill senior attack Eric Benesch has been named the Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Mars Hill junior goalkeeper Dylan Price is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Florida Southern's Stephen Boyle is the Freshman of the Week.
Benesch netted 10 goals on the week, leading the Lions to a pair of victories. He started his week with three goals in the 14-6 win over Lees-McRae. Benesch had a huge game in Mars Hill's key DSC victory over Catawba, racking up seven goals in the 12-5 victory, handing the Indians their first league loss of the season. The win helped the Lions move into a first place tie at 3-1 in the conference.
Price held Mars Hill's two opponents to a combined 11 goals in the two wins on the week for the Lions. He collected 12 saves while holding Lees-McRae to five goals in the first win. Price piled up 14 saves in the conference victory over Catawba, while also collecting four ground balls. Price had a .722 save percentage for the week, with 26 saves and five ground balls.
Boyle had a hat trick in Florida Southern's only game of the
week, netting three goals in the 14-6 Deep South Conference victory
over Lenoir-Rhyne. He notched his second consecutive hat trick,
while taking five shots on the day and collecting a ground ball.
Boyle helped the Moccasins improve to 3-1 in the conference, moving
them into a four-way tie for first place.
