Cowx Named DSC Player of the Week
WINGATE, N.C. - Mars Hill College senior attack T.J. Cowx (Delta, British Columbia) has been named the first Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the 2012 season, league officials announced Monday afternoon. University of Tampa junior goalkeeper Joseph Fiorucci (Shirley, N.Y.) has been named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Tampa's Jonathan Franzese (Lynbrook, N.Y.) is the Freshman of the Week.
Cowx led Mars Hill to an 11-5 season-opening conference victory over Rollins College. Cowx had two goals and two assists for the Lions. He took four shots on the afternoon, including three shots on goal. Cowx also piled up seven ground balls for Mars Hill.
Fiorucci played a big role in Tampa's season-opening win against Florida Southern, racking up eight saves while allowing only four goals. His stellar play helped the Spartans notch a victory in their first-ever lacrosse game. Fiorucci added a ground ball on the afternoon to help Tampa notch an early conference victory.
Franzese also played a big role in Tampa's 7-4 win, scoring a pair of goals for the Spartans. He did his damage on two shots, while adding a ground ball on the day. Franzese scored the game-winner for the Spartans in the fourth period.
