Lacrosse Dominates Lees-McRae
Lions record 56 shots in the game
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College, 12-3 Tuesday evening at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 2-0 on the season while the Bobcats suffered their second loss (0-2) in a row.
Taylor Thilo and Dan Applebaum led the Lions' attack. Thilo scored three goals and had one assist while Applebaum scored twice and had the same number of assists. T.J. Cowx tallied two goals and had one assist while Tyler Wilcox provided his teammates with two assists. Dylan Price played the entire game in the net for MHC and made 13 saves facing 20 shots. The Lions outshot LMC, 56-20 and won the ground ball battle, 56-26. Mars Hill was 3-4 in extra man opportunities. MHC also won 13-17 face-offs. Individually Ryan Herrmann won 13-16 face-offs. Herrmann and Chris Cudmore led the Lions' defense with three caused turnovers apiece. Dalton Jernigan caused two turnovers for MHC in the win.
Danny Ives led LMC with two goals and one assist. Ryan Harrison played all 60 minutes in the net for the Bobcats and made 25 saves.
Jamie Raezer scored the Lions first goal at the 13:48 mark of the first quarter and MHC never looked back. The Lions went on to lead 3-0 after the first quarter and scored three more goals in the second frame to take a 6-0 lead into the locker room at the intermission. MHC scored four more unanswered goals in the third quarter to lead 10-0 before Ives put the Bobcats on the board at the 13:35 mark of the final period. The Bobcats outscored the Lions 3-2 in the fourth stanza to make the final tally, 12-3, in favor of the hosts.
Mars Hill will host Deep South Conference rival Florida Institute of Technology on Sunday, February 19. Game time is set for a 2 p.m. start.
