Lacrosse Wins at Lenoir-Rhyne
HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill Men's Lacrosse Team (5-0, 3-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 14-6 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (0-3, 0-1) in the Bears' Deep South Conference opener Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
The Lions' Taylor Thilo and Zach Tomkinson each scored three goals as Mars Hill raced to a 5-0 lead early in the second period and never looked back en route to the win.
Six different players scored for Lenoir-Rhyne including Tyler Kotch, who finished with a goal and an assist for the Bears in the losing effort.
Mars Hill held the advantage in both shots taken (45-27) and ground balls (44-34) while T.J. Cowx added two goals and two assists for the Lions as well.
In goal, Mars Hill's Dylan Price was credited with the win after going the distance and stopping 10 shots. Meanwhile, L-R senior goalkeeper Patrick Stasio suffered the loss despite tallying eight saves on the afternoon.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Limestone, the No. 3-ranked team in NCAA Division II, on Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. Mars Hill hosts Florida Southern in a conference match on Thursday, March 1, at 5 p.m.
