Lions Sweep DSC Weekly Awards
Cowx, Thilo, Cudmore Honored by DSC
Wingate, N.C.---- Mars Hill College sweeps this week's three Deep South Conference Player of the Week awards, DSC officials announce Monday afternoon. The MHC Lions won two games last week, entering Monday's NCAA Division II top 12 poll at number 12.
Mars Hill senior attack T.J. Cowx (Delta, British Columbia, Canada) is this week's Offensive Player of the Week. Senior defense Chris Cudmore (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman attack Taylor Thilo (Greensboro, N.C.) was selected the Freshman of the Week. The Lions went 2-0 on the week, including a DSC victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Cowx had six goals, one assist and three ground balls to help Mars Hill to a 20-5 non-conference victory over Coker College Wednesday. In the 14-6 DSC triumph over Lenoir-Rhyne, Cowx posted two goals and two assists to go with three ground balls. His cumulative statistics ledger for the week includes eight goals, three assists and six ground balls.
A long-stick middie, Cudmore had six ground balls and eight caused turnovers in the Coker victory. He also dished out one assist to lead the Lions over the Cobras. In the L-R contest, Cudmore recorded eight ground balls and two caused turnovers to anchor the Lions' defensive efforts. For the week, he had 14 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers and two assists.
A Grimsley High School product, Thilo had four goals and four assists against Coker. He picked up three ground balls from his attack position. Against the L-R Bears, Thilo posted three goals and one assist. His stat line for the week features seven goals, five assists and six ground balls.
The two victories give Mars Hill a 5-0 overall record this season. The MHC Lions will be in action Thursday, March 1, when they host Florida Southern College at Meares Stadium. The first face-off is slated for 5 p.m.
